Three Types of People in dōTERRA

There are three types of people who sign up to an account and use dōTERRA essential oils. We call them a Customer, Sharer or Builder. It is very important when you place someone in your team that you know which category they fit into. Some people start customers, then become sharers and then become builders. It is always best to place someone in a postion that they are committing to right now. If there is no commitment, they are a Customer.

Here are the definitions and characteristics of the 3 Categories.

Customer

A Customer is someone who signs up for the oils. They show little or no interest in the business opportunity and most importantly they do not commit to anything even hosting a class as this means they are probably not a sharer yet. They may or may not commit to LRP. They are probably interested in all product related classes, webinars, Facebook groups.

If someone falls in this category you always sign them up as a Wholesale Customer. This gives you the added benefit of if they do eventually decide to share or build the dōTERRA business they can upgrade their account to a Wellness Advocate one and you get another 14 days to move them (if you are the enroller) anywhere in you team.

90% of all people you sign up will be in the Customer Category.

Sharer

There are several types of Sharers:

  • Someone who Commits to Hosting a Class

  • Someone who you know will share the oils naturally but isn’t currently committing to the Business Opportunity

  • Someone in your family who is sharing with people and you want to place them under them.

  • Someone who doesn’t like says but cant help but telling people about the oils

Shares are generally people who love the oils and will buy regularly, they will often be your best customers and go onto LRP. Sharers generally don’t commit or they commit to very little. They are often interested in making a little bit of money by selling via retail or just sharing occasionally or hosting a class or two.

Builders

A builder is someone who wants to build a business with dōTERRA to whatever degree whether it’s for £300 a month or £10,000 a month. The key differences here from Customers and Sharers is commitment.

What does a Builder Commit too?

  • 100PV a Month

  • On LRP

  • Sampling People

  • Enrolling People

  • Enrolling others to share and do the business

All builders commit to doing the above to varying degrees, if they do not they are not builders. It doesn’t matter how good or capable someone is unless they commit you cannot rely on them as a builder. So if they do not commit to the above they are a Sharer or a Customer.

If you think they have the potential to become a builder place them and sign them up as a customer. This gives you the option to move them if they upgrade to a Wellness Advocate.

There are several types of builder, this is generally based on their capabilities as assessed by you, their time commitments as told by them and then assessed by you and then what their goals are currently. All builders commit to the above.

Here are the 3 main types of Builder:

  1. Someone committing to 15+ hours a week and wants to Rank very quickly with high aspirations and you believe in their capabilities

  2. Someone committing to a small amount of time and is happily going slowly and wants it as part-time income.

  3. Someone who is somewhere in between 1 and 2.

Understanding which category your new sign-up falls in will help you place them as well as possible in within your team.
